Guitar Books Direct

Case Study

Guitar Books Direct initially began as a side project for a successful Guitar tuition provider in Manchester. Once the business had taken a foothold in on-line sales, they approached me to look at a fresh new logo and brand.

The brief was to make the logo appear quite retro and established, but with a timeless ‘Coca Cola’ feel. I wanted to reflect both the guitar and book aspect in the title whilst also creating something new that would give a sense of progress and fun.

Whilst experimenting with different shapes I noticed a correlation between the negative space achieved through the flickering pages of a book and the body of a guitar. The pages, when attached to the text of the logo appeared to give the logo wings and brought the whole thing tighter together.

To complete the vintage feel, the brand employs heavy use of the wooden background. Adding this give the logo a warmth and friendliness whilst making the text jump out.
